Für die Verdeutlichung der Verfahrensweisen der beiden Autoren exponiert die Arbeit ein typologisches Spektrum an Mustern für ein Sprechen in und über Tautologien, d. h. die beiden wohl grundsätzlichen 'Verwendungsmöglichkeiten' der Tautologie: einerseits als ein sprachpraktisch relevanter Terminus technicus, wie er sich innerhalb der antiken Ars grammatica und Ars rhetorica herausbildet; andererseits als eine in ihrer philosophischen Sachhaltigkeit problematische Satzform. Auf der Folie von traditionellen Verwendungsmöglichkeiten der Tautologie bei Platon, Aristoteles, Boethius, Wilhem von Ockham und Meister Eckhard werden Heideggers Texte einer Lektüre unterzogen, die sich weniger auf Heideggers Thematisierung des Sprachproblems als auf seine Verfahrensweise bei der - tautologischen - Darstellung dieses difficulties konzentriert. Ziel ist dabei, die paintings der Bedeutungskonstitution in solchen Wendungen wie "Die Sprache spricht" zu erhellen. Die Chancen und Grenzen eines solchen Umgangs mit Heideggers Tautologien wird dann verdeutlicht mit einem Blick auf Jakobson, dessen Interpretationspraxis ihrerseits von einem spezifischen Umgang mit Tautologien geprägt ist.
