Jahrhunderts, notice: 1,3, Technische Universität Berlin, Veranstaltung: Einführung in die Philosophie der Mathematik, Sprache: Deutsch, summary: Das Thema dieser Arbeit ist die Rolle, welche die Induktion als wissenschaftliche Methode innerhalb der Mathematik einnimmt. Unter Induktion verstehe ich in diesem Zusammenhang das Sammeln von empirischen Daten über ähnliche Gegenstände, die dann miteinander verglichen und zusammengefasst werden, um zu einer allgemeinen Aussage über diese Gegenstände zu gelangen. Diese Aussage gilt dann nicht nur für die bis dahin untersuchten Gegenstände, sondern auch für alle zukünftigen Gegenstände derselben artwork.

Zunächst werde ich den Standpunkt von John Stuart Mill zu diesem Thema darstellen, ihn dann kritisch prüfen und anschließend mit neueren Forschungsergebnissen von Imre Lakatos vergleichen.
Ich weise darauf hin, dass die vorliegende Arbeit nicht von einem Mathematiker geschrieben wurde und ich aus Mangel an Fachkenntnissen daher nicht auf innermathematische Theorien eingehen kann.
Erkenntnistheoretisch aufgeladene Begriffe wie Wahrnehmung, Erfahrung und Realität werde ich zudem unkritisch verwenden und die alltagssprachlichen Bedeutungen nicht weiter in Frage stellen.
