Martinique et d’une mère blanche du Berry, Yasmine Modestine n’a cessé d’entendre tout au lengthy de sa vie que les « gens comme elle n’existent pas », qu’ils ont une « voix spéciale », qu’elle serait « weak » comme les gens de « son peuple », qu’elle n’est « pas si noire en fait ». Et surtout, qu’elle aurait « des problèmes avec sa couleur ». Avec ironie et lucidité sur elle-même, elle raconte le parcours professionnel d’une Française dont l’identité est niée et qui peine à trouver sa position dans son propre pays.
